My baby sleeps all the time, should I worry?
If you think your baby is sleeping a lot during the day, then it might actually be completely normal depending on his age! Know that newborns (0-2 months) actually sleep throughout the 24-hour period, sleeping about 3 to 4 hours then waking for about an hour and a half to two hours, then start again. This varies a great deal, though. In early infancy (2- to 3-month olds), you will start to see more consolidated sleep periods. Nine-month-olds have even more defined naps, typically twice per day. Most 18-month olds are down to only one nap per day. So, if your little one’s sleep is gradually consolidating, there is likely nothing to worry about. If, however, you have an older infant who seems to sleep more than other little ones his age, and that his sleepiness is excessive, be sure to contact your health care provider or sleep medicine physician for further evaluation.
