Usually this is nothing to worry about – jerky movements while falling asleep and during sleep in infants is common! This can happen in her entire body, trunk, or limbs. Only rarely does this mean that there is a significant health issue.

That said, if you are concerned about jerky movements when your baby is asleep or awake, it is important to talk to your child’s health care provider. Also, take a video of the movements and bring it to your appointment. This will help your health care provider make decisions about whether or not any testing is needed.
