How can I tell if my toddler is sleeping too much?
Most toddlers will require between 11-14 hours of sleep in a 24-hour period, including nighttime sleep and daytime naps. If your toddler seems to be sleeping more than this, he may be sleeping too much – and there can be several possible reasons for this. Certain medications, iron or other vitamin deficiencies, and other medical conditions can cause a toddler to start sleeping too much. Sometimes, though, otherwise healthy children simply have a longer “sleep requirement” than their peers. Talk to your child’s health care provider if you are concerned about how much your little one is sleeping, and they will help you figure out if there is anything to worry about or not.
