How can I help him learn to fall asleep in his room instead of on the couch?
This is a really common concern. A good first step is to make sure you have a consistent bedtime routine of two to four consistent activities that lasts 20 to 30 minutes and moves in the direction of the bedroom. If your child is used to falling asleep lying next to you on the couch, you may need to spend several nights holding him or lying next to him in his bed until he falls asleep. Once your child is used to the new routine, you can start slowly phasing yourself out so that he is able to fall asleep on his own in his room after the consistent routine.
